A Collection: Green Thumb”, acrylic gouache on paper

I’m starting a new series of small paintings of different collections and here is the first! Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about finding low-maintenance plants to bring fresh air and life into the studio.

A Collection is a year-long series of small gridded paintings updated bimonthly. If you’d like to see the progress so far, take a look

Genus: Aloe
Species: Variegata (thanks cactusmandan for the correction!)

This aloe was one of my first succulents! And I almost killed it from overwatering. Thankfully it’s doing just fine now, has been growing new leaves and itty-bitty spikes are just starting to form. The roots are so shallow and he gets a little lopsided sometimes.

I got this in the winter from Crownflora.

Aechmea Primera
Bromeliad

Bromeliads are a regular staple in our home although we haven’t had a large one in a while. We couldn’t resist picking up this gorgeous Aechmea Primera, with its frosty leaves and bright pink flower!
